Over 20 years of pesticide-free tea cultivation
Previously, conventional tea cultivation required two full days to spray pesticides across all tea fields, repeated 7–8 times a year. This spraying also placed a heavy burden on the body. In the summer of 1972, while spraying pesticides in our own fields, I collapsed due to exposure. A doctor warned me that continuing this work in such conditions would eventually damage my liver and force me to quit drinking alcohol. This led me to seriously consider whether pesticide-free tea cultivation was possible, and I made a firm decision to transition to pesticide-free, chemical fertilizer-free farming.
Delivering safe and安心 tea leaves
At first, yields dropped drastically, and I sometimes regretted the decision. People around me said it was impossible to grow tea without pesticides. However, I was determined to continue this method for the health of myself, my family, and those who drink our tea. The journey was long and challenging, but through trial and error, the tea plants gradually became stronger, and yields stabilized. Over the past decade, consumers and those around us have finally recognized the safety and quality, and I truly feel it was the right decision to transition to pesticide-free, chemical-free cultivation. Please enjoy this carefully crafted Uji genmaicha made from pesticide-free tea leaves.
