What is Ryujin Plum?
In the highest peak in Kishu called Mt. Gomadan, where the stream of Hidaka river is flowing through the valley, there is a place where nature and history is nurtured called Ryujin Village (Ryujin Natural Food Center). There are about 1600 plum trees in the field of about 3 hectares in "Blue Dragon's Village" overlooking the clear stream Hidaka River. Starting from the soil when the seeding process begins, there is no chemical sterilization. So no chemical pesticides or fertilizer is used. The planting only uses the traditional compost such as momigawa and tree skin. Still, the plum tree produce lush greens and bear many fruits every year. The essential plum fruit that is grown with the power of nature is harvested one by one with the utmost care. Because it is grown with no chemical fertilizer, the plum will have a strong fragrant smell. The plum field of Ryujin Village, as far as the eyes can see, is filled with sweet plum fragrance.

The fresh Plum that is harvested from 1600 trees will be made into umeboshi (pickled plum), juice, plum extract, and other products. All of them are made with traditional manufacturing methods. Although still not many people know about Ryujin plum, Ryujin produce more than 50 ton of plums each year. An enthusiastic fan of Ryujin plum might say “If it is not Ryujin plum, it won’t taste as good”. It is a pickled plum known only to the people who know it.
